June 2025/ Feed-back from Riga

The AEIAR General Assembly in Riga showcased innovative rural development and land observation practices across Europe. We had the honor to be the guests of Mr. Armands Krauze, Minister of Agriculture of Latvia.

Field visits highlighted Latvia’s Mazsalijas farm, a model of sustainable agri-tourism, and Kuldīga’s UNESCO-listed heritage.

Member countries shared diverse land monitoring systems, from France’s advanced SAFER network to Italy’s ISMEA revival plans. Discussions emphasized the need for transparent land markets, fair access, and sustainable land use.:

The European Commission is launching a pilot for a continental land observatory to support informed policymaking.

Wallonia’s new Land Agency and France’s ELAN fund exemplify proactive land access strategies. Legal frameworks, such as EU preemption rights, were debated for their role in balancing market freedom and public interest.

Poland and Flanders highlighted challenges in integrating public and private land data.

The mission reinforced the value of cross-border collaboration and innovation in land governance.

Participants left inspired to strengthen national systems and contribute to a unified European vision for agricultural land.

Many thanks to our latvian colleagues !!
